Tagline The Desert Rose: A gripping Western set in 1889, John Fields seeks vengeance against the man who killed his mother and destroyed his town. John will stop at nothing to systematically destroy everything that those who wronged him care for most. And he doesn't care how much of his soul he loses along the way.
Full Summary In the year 1889, 24 years after the end of American slavery, a small southern town in rural America began to prosper. Formerly enslaved individuals and people from all walks of life sought refuge in this developing town following the Civil War and their newly given freedom. Ally May Fields, a 28-year-old formerly enslaved woman, emerged as the town's leader after her husband was killed shortly after the birth of their son, John Fields, who is now 12 years old. The town flourished, drawing attention for its unique location, which provided a perfect thoroughfare to neighboring, more populated cities. This attracted the interest of railroad men—ruthless individuals who would stop at nothing to acquire the land of this newly developed city. After several failed attempts to seize the land, the railroad men employed a notorious bounty hunter named Desmond K. Price, popularly known as "Death's Rose." He earned this moniker because he often wore a rose in his lapel, and after capturing his bounty or victim, he would beat and butcher them, leaving a fresh rose on their remains as a calling card.
He was so brutal that he only kept his bounties alive if the reward was substantial; otherwise, he hunted for sport. The railroad men hired Price to murder the town's leaders and to burn and displace its people so that they could purchase the land. They promised him a share of the profits and a portion of the land if he succeeded. One early Sunday morning, Death's Rose arrived at Ally May’s shop in the heart of the town and murdered her in front of her son, John Fields. John escaped only due to Death's Rose’s indifference and self-righteous mission to destroy the rest of the town. However, it never sat right with him that he allowed the boy to survive. For the next ten years, John plotted his revenge, training with Black militias and Native American groups. Over the years, he honed his hunting and tracking skills, becoming a hardened and adept bounty hunter—the youngest Black bounty hunter in the region.
When he believed he was finally prepared to return to the now-desolate railroad town, he observed that some of the same people he had lived among before its destruction were now working on the railroads, bound in a state of indentured servitude to avoid being cast out into the harsh American desert. John was determined not only to hunt those who murdered his mother and destroyed his town but also to systematically dismantle what the railroad men valued most: their assets and their profits. With the help of a few who were brave enough to join him, John sought to rally those who had once been too broken to fight to push the railroad men out of town. This would culminate in a final confrontation between John and Death's Rose.
