“Just Behind Paradise” is a series of cloud photography I began a few months ago. Some of the images I captured were, to me, spectacular. But what became more important than the images themselves was how they made me feel, the emotions that each shot evoked. I recently lost someone who meant the world to me, and whenever I captured an image that felt special, I would think of them. I thought of heaven. Looking at the clouds felt close to them. Connected. As though there was no distance between us.

Not in front of me. Not somewhere I could reach or see either. But almost as if they were standing there with me, just behind me, beyond my sight, where I could still feel their love and their warmth. And for a moment, it felt as though they were there with me. Hard to explain or describe, but it felt as though their love was behind me, that paradise was behind me or as I titled the series, that I was just behind paradise."
